A Salt Lake City Police officer squats with his gun drawn next to a body inside
the Trolley Square Mall, Monday night, Feb 12, 2007, in Salt Lake City.

I liked the intensity and immediacy of the photo of the police officer over
the body in the mall. The seriousness of the sitiuation really came through
in this very strong picture.

From right, Jenni Johnson receives a hug from friend Laurel Burton as Cedar
City firefighters work on putting out a fire in Unit 1108 at Kensington
Apartments in Cedar City April 14, 2007. Burton came over from her apartment
to make sure Johnson, a neighbor of Unit 1108, was okay.

The picture of the women at the apartment fire really told a story
for me and I like the emotion and composition.

Cove Fort, UT. Weston Stoddard, 9, helps herd the family cattle away from
the Milford Flat Fire in the Mineral Range south of Cove Fort. The fire
consumed over 300,000 acres making it the largest in Utah’s history.

The boy bringing the cattle in from the fire was a strong photo that showed
me something different than the usual fire pic. I got a real sense of the
lives that were affected by the looming fire.
