Skyline High School’s basketball team dogpiles on Liz Johnson (15, bottom)
after Johnson hit a last second shot to beat Davis and send Skyline to Saturday’s
State Championship game.
This image is a perfect example of what a jubo photo should be. The use of
a wide angle lens brings us right into the action and the frame is filled side-to-side
with excited faces.

Brigham Young University’s Bryce Mahuika (2) leads the football team in
the haka before the Arizona game Sept 1, 2007.
The eyes and shadows are everything in this photo…. great moment.

New Mexico cheerleaders huddle under their GO LOBOS signs to escape a pre-game
rain squall.
This is a classic image of daily life on the field of play before the
game. Taken at a time when most photographers would have been hiding from
the rain them self, them image really shows initiative. The image
would have placed higher if there had been less dead space.

Honorable Mention – Mario Ruiz/Provo Daily Herald
Viewmont Assistant Coach Richard Layton, 47, stomps on a pheasant released
onto the field by students the American Fork Viewmont football playoff
game Friday, October 26, 2007. Layton is facing animal cruelty charges
for stepping on the bird and injuring it to the point where it had to
be killed by American Fork High School officials.
Catching a crime in progress is probably the last thing you would ever
expect to shoot at a football game. Great job.
